WelcomeWelcome to SimHealth 2011: Monday 12 September - Thursday 15 September, Sydney, Australia
SimHealth 2011 (formerly SimTecT Health) will continue the trend that has seen the conference established as the premier healthcare simulation conference in the Asia Pacific region. This year's conference will explore the theme: “Patient Centred Simulation” by bringing together national and international experts from a range of clinical, educational and research disciplines together with policy makers and health services. The term "Patient Centred Simulation" is often used to describe simulation programs for researchers, educators, and clinicians. But what do we all mean by Patient Centred Simulation? Does it mean that simulation is focused on patient safety and risk management? Or is it simulation training that goes beyond the adoption of the latest and most sophisticated technologies and focuses on the patient clinical journey. Alternatively, it may be defined as a mechanism that brings together teams to create a positive environment where healthcare professionals learn and practice their skills. Or is it all of the above? The SimHealth 2011 conference is asking the question and has an aim to challenge participants to look to unravel the question and work towards defining what it means to others and how it fits in with what it is we as educators, researchers and clinicians are doing. If you are a clinician, educator, academic, researcher, leader or policy maker interested in hearing, or sharing, the latest updates on how simulation techniques can be used to enhance training programs and research in healthcare education, patient safety, human factors, systems design and quality improvement, this is the conference for you. Peter Brooks Welcome from Scientific Convenor
It's an exciting time for simulation within Australasia. The Australian Government through its agency Health Workforce Australia (HWA) has invested heavily in simulation education and the next twelve months promises to deliver a great breadth of simulation initiatives for educators and students across all professional groups. This year's scientific program aims to appeal to educators, academics, researchers, policymakers and providers alike. Our keynote speakers, invited speakers and panellists bring a wealth of expertise across themes of patient-centeredness, innovation, inter-professional learning, workforce development and research. As in previous years we present a blended program of talks, workshops and discussion forums and for those with an interest in paediatrics, rural health and simulated patients, the ASSH special interest groups will host user group meetings. Don't forget to take a look at our pre-conference and in-conference workshop programs offering a wide range of topics including gaming, debriefing, role-play, simulated patients, mobile simulation, assessment, research methods, program development and more! On behalf of the Scientific Committee I welcome you to SimHealth 2011. Leonie Watterson |
